APHRODITES

CONCEPT RESTURANT

Second year at university was all about commercial spaces and catering to the masses. The brief was to create a new restaurant for visitors to enjoy. This light and breezy space is perfect for a romantic evening dinner, or for catching up with some friends. The round bar in the middle of the space is perfect for a quick evening drink, with subtle candles placed throughout and a lush gold ring feature flowing way up in the ceiling. The booth seats are a great way to observe the buzz of the restaurant while having that much needed privacy on a romantic evening, surrounded by custom wallpaper and a botanical feature wall. And, cozy bench seating in placed to the left as another form of comfort.

The views from the outside present a tranquil environment, where visitors can dine under sweet orange trees and fairy lights. It provides that abroad experience whilst still staying in the UK. The natural elements are meant to calm visitors, especially for those evening meals by sitting under the twinkling lights and smelling the freshness of the trees. The cobblestone walkway through to the restaurant provides a great view of the whole space, so visitors can get excited to sit down and dine.

THE CONCEPT

MAKING THE SPACE COME TO LIFE IN A PASSIONATE, CREATIVE WAY

The concept for this space is 'Romance in Greece'. I wanted to create a feminine and lush feel all paying homage to Greece and the scenes it has to offer. It is obviously the perfect romantic setting, hence the name 'Aphrotite's' (goddess of love). The baby pink and blue create a lovely soft contract with the colour of the foliage. The main feature wall, decorated with custom wallpaper, represents the ancient greek statues covered in vines as if they have stood for centuries. The mis-matched traditional Greek tile flooring creates zoning from the bar, to the booths, to the rest of the resturant.

The main aim for this space was to have at least 50% of the resturant in the Dulux colour of the year 2022 'Bright Skies'. This colour paired perfectly with the soft and light feel of the resturant. The colour was used in the feature piece on the ceiling, atterns on plush chairs, and flooring. The ceiling feature is decorated with custom wallpaper, to give the illusion that visitors are in the whimsical world of the greek gods up in the clouds.
