THE NURSERY
DESIGNED FOR LORD MONTAGU AT BEAULIEU PALACE HOUSE
As part of my final semester at University. Our main project was to redesign two bedrooms in Beaulieu palace house. Liasing with the owner, Lord Montagu, we came up with a design to transform his once dining room into a night nursery. The day nursery was connected via secret door and there were no requirements.
To understand the history of the estate, I researched the grounds that the palace house stoon on. It is in the new forest and i wanted to create a space that commemorated that in a way children would enjoy. Step into this sanctury that the animals of the New Forest call home. After a long day exploring the grounds, taking their children out to play, and shopping in the towns, the animals of beaulieu arrive home. They take their top hats off, pop on their night gowns and rest up for a good sleep, ready to adventure the next day!
THE CONCEPT
MAKING THIS ROOM PERSONAL TO THE CLIENT
Research into your client is so important when conducting a residential project, it allows you to really hone in onto what is special to them and how this can impact their space. From my researched, I found out that the New Forest was an integral part of the Palace House history. So, I re-imagined the wealth and importance of the animals in a fun and quirky way.
The space is cozy and warm, a great place for a child to rest after a long day of playing. Equipped with a double bed, rocking chair for those evening reads and large reading chair for summer afternoon reading, it is a great and diverse space for children to feel safe in, and adults to enjoy also. The decor brings out the quirky element to this concept, with sweet wall mounts showing animals in their finest attire. The feature wall shows the Barons of Beaulieu, including some of Beulieu's fines royal animals. The sage green and brown colour pallet represent the natural feel the woodlands supply.
